The Accusation Trap

The Accusation Trap

165 165 people viewed this event.

In recent years, a disturbing pattern of blasphemy accusations has raised questions about the ways in which individuals may be deliberately entrapped through online interactions and subsequently drawn into criminal proceedings. Allegations of organised honey-trapping and the manipulation or fabrication of evidence have brought renewed attention to fundamental questions of due process, fair trial and the limits of lawful investigation.

But where does the law draw the line? Can a person be deliberately induced or entrapped into conduct and then prosecuted for it? What protections does the Constitution provide against unlawful methods of investigation, manufactured evidence and abuse of legal process?

This session will examine these questions through the lenses of constitutional rights, criminal law, due process, investigative practices, freedom of expression and the role of journalism in holding power and legal institutions to account.
