Out Beyond: Film Screening & Discussion
What happens when the person you want to become is at odds with the person your family and society expect you to be?
“Out Beyond” follows Ahmed, a 15-year-old boy with a passion for drumming, growing up in a family that does not support his ambitions. Afraid to express his true self under the weight of family expectations and social pressures, Ahmed finds a small refuge in the most unlikely place: the bathroom, where he secretly plays the drums, turning his only safe space into a place of expression and escape.
Through Ahmed’s story, “Out Beyond” explores identity, self-expression, family expectations and the quiet pressures that can shape a young person’s sense of self. It asks what happens when creativity becomes something to hide, and how difficult it can be to find the freedom to express who we truly are.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with Salman Alam Khan, Producer, Director and Filmmaker, and the writer and director of Out Beyond. The discussion will be moderated by Nihal Farid, Writer, Artist and Media Professional.
This session is free and open to all. Just visit the venue to attend it.
