Hum Juda Nahi: Documentary Film Screening On Struggle For Joint Electorate
Pakistan’s electoral history carries an important story of citizenship, representation and the struggle for equality. This 20-minute documentary, produced by the Centre for Social Justice and co-directed by Dawood Akhtar Murad, traces the history of the Separate Electorate system and the movement for its replacement with the Joint Electorate.
Through historical narratives and personal testimonies, the film highlights the collective efforts of civil society organisations, political leaders, faith communities and human rights advocates who campaigned for equal citizenship and meaningful democratic participation for religious minorities.
The documentary also explores how sustained civic advocacy contributed to democratic reform, and how these efforts continue to inspire the struggle for equality, pluralism, social cohesion and the protection of constitutional rights.
The screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A, offering an opportunity to reflect on Pakistan’s electoral journey and the continuing question of equal citizenship in a plural society.
