Existentialism: A Philosophy of Despair Or Freedom?

Existentialism: A Philosophy of Despair Or Freedom?

What does it mean to live in a world without predetermined meaning? For existentialist thinkers, this question lies at the heart of the human condition. Faced with uncertainty, freedom, responsibility, isolation and the inevitability of death, existentialism is often described as a philosophy of anxiety and despair. But is despair really its destination?

From Kierkegaard and Nietzsche to Sartre, Camus and Simone de Beauvoir, existentialist thought challenged the idea that meaning is simply given to us. Instead, it asked us to confront the uncertainty of existence and consider what it means to create meaning through our choices, actions and relationships.

Does the absence of an inherent purpose make life meaningless, or does it give us the freedom to shape our own lives? What does existentialism say about choice, responsibility, authenticity and the search for meaning? And can confronting the absurd and the limits of human existence ultimately become a source of freedom?

Join us for a philosophical exploration of existentialism, its difficult questions and its enduring relevance to the way we understand freedom, meaning and what it means to be human.
