In an increasingly connected world, our personal data has become one of our most valuable – and vulnerable -possessions. From phone numbers, photographs and location data to financial information, private conversations and online identities, the digital traces we leave behind can reveal far more about us than we realise.

But when this information is stolen, leaked, misused or weaponised, the consequences are not always the same for everyone. Women and girls can face particularly serious risks, including online harassment, stalking, blackmail, identity abuse, non-consensual sharing of intimate content, reputational harm and threats to their personal safety.

This discussion will look beyond the technical dimensions of cybersecurity to explore the human and gendered cost of data theft. Why are women and girls often more vulnerable to certain forms of digital abuse? How does seemingly harmless personal information become a tool for intimidation or exploitation? And what can individuals, families, institutions and technology platforms do to better protect privacy and digital safety?
