KP in Crisis: Militancy, Governor’s Rule and the Way Forward
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing a critical moment, with a deteriorating security situation, persistent militancy and escalating tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration. Disagreements over counterterrorism policy have further deepened the divide, raising difficult questions about security, governance and the relationship between the federation and the province.
The federal government’s decision to impose an emergency and Governor’s Rule under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan has brought these tensions into sharper focus. What are the constitutional and political implications of this decision? How might it affect provincial autonomy, democratic governance and the functioning of elected institutions? And will these measures help address the province’s security challenges, or risk deepening the political confrontation?
