A Tribute to Lata Mangeshkar

Few voices in the history of South Asian music have travelled across generations and borders quite like Lata Mangeshkar. For millions, her voice was more than music. It became part of childhood memories, love stories, celebrations, heartbreaks and countless moments of everyday life.

From timeless film songs to classical influences, Lata Mangeshkar’s extraordinary musical journey spanned decades and left an enduring imprint on the musical culture of the subcontinent. What gave her singing such remarkable emotional power? How did her voice, technique and musical sensibility shape generations of singers and listeners? And why do her songs continue to feel so deeply personal, even years after they were first heard?

In this special evening at The Black Hole, Prof. Shahbaz Ali, harmonium soloist, musicologist and Pride of Performance awardee, will explore the musical legacy and artistry of Lata Mangeshkar. Dr. Usama bin Zubair, Consultant Psychiatrist and music enthusiast, will reflect on the emotional and psychological dimensions of music and memory, while Muaaz bin Usama, child star and student of Rung School of Music and Arts, will bring a younger generation’s voice to this celebration.

The musical tribute will be enriched by Ephlal Robin on tabla, providing sangat throughout the evening.

An evening of music, memory and conversation, celebrating a voice that did not merely sing songs, but gave generations of listeners a language for emotions they could not always put into words.

This session is free and open to all. Just visit the venue to attend it.
