Miscarriage of Justice: A Call for Justice, Due Process and Human Rights

The right to a fair trial, due process and equal protection under the law are fundamental to any democratic society. Yet when legal proceedings become prolonged, questions naturally arise about the protection of these rights and the human cost of delayed justice.

This session brings together members of civil society to raise their voices for Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, two human rights lawyers whose cases have drawn concern among colleagues, rights advocates and members of the wider legal community.

Rather than prejudging the outcome of any legal proceedings, the discussion will focus on broader questions of due process, access to justice, the protection of human rights defenders and the importance of an independent and fair legal process.

How do we safeguard fundamental rights when those who defend them themselves face legal challenges? What does meaningful due process require? And what can civil society do to ensure that justice remains fair, transparent and accessible to all?

The conversation is an expression of solidarity and a call to uphold the principles that lie at the heart of justice: fairness, due process, equality before the law and respect for fundamental rights.
