The Relapse Cycle: What Really Happens Between Addiction and Recovery?

The Relapse Cycle: What Really Happens Between Addiction and Recovery?

318 318 people viewed this event.

Breaking free from addiction is often imagined as a single decisive moment: a person stops using a substance, seeks treatment and simply moves on. But recovery is rarely that simple or that linear.

For many people, addiction is followed by periods of recovery, struggle and, sometimes, relapse. This does not necessarily mean that treatment has failed or that recovery is impossible. Instead, it raises important questions about the complex psychological, social and biological factors that can make addiction, and recovery, such a difficult journey.

This session will discuss addiction and relapse beyond stereotypes and simplistic explanations, examining the forces that can keep people caught in a difficult cycle, and the pathways that can help them break free.
